Kimia Rahgozar
Kimia Rahgozar lives and works in Tehran, where she was born in 1967. Her atelier is located where she has lived for the past 30 years, an old house situated in Shemiran, North of Tehran.
She started taking serious interest in photography as an adolescent, by practicing with her father’s old camera. After graduating from high school with a diploma majoring in mathematics, she wanted to study photography at university. However, photography was not available as a separate course and could only be studied as part of journalism. In those days, the only university courses that had any kudos were medicine and engineering. As she enjoyed Electronics, she opted for Electronics Engineering.
Portraiture has always been Kimia’s passion and the field in which she has focused professionally. therefore her everyday work mostly involves portrait photography of subjects who want images of themselves taken professionally so that when they look at it, they feel good about themselves.It is now around ten years that she is researching on Ethics and professional behavior specially as a professional photographer in portraiture.
She is also interested in architectural photography and she enjoy traveling across Iran to photograph historical sites. Through this type of photography, Kimia aim to show cultural nuances through architectural details.As part of her practical training, she has worked with a number of famous Iranian photographers, namely Kamran Adle, Kaveh Kazemi, and Ali Rais-Shaghaghi.
